1. Agreement
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern the websites alumni.nersss.in and nersss.in (together, "the Site") operated by the NERSSS Alumni Association ("the Association", "we"). By using the Site, registering, or signing in to NERSSS Connect, you accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy, which forms part of them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
2. Who may register
Membership is open to former students of N. E. Railway Senior Secondary School, Kauwabagh, Gorakhpur, aged eighteen or over. Registration requires truthful information; claiming an association with the school you do not have, or registering on another person's behalf without authority, is a breach of these Terms. The Association may decline or revoke membership where verification fails or information proves false.
3. Verification and vouching
Applications are verified against surviving school records where possible, through vouches by verified members, and by volunteer review. By vouching you confirm a genuine personal recollection of the applicant; vouching for strangers is a serious breach. Verification decisions are made in good faith by volunteers and are final, though you may reapply with further evidence.
4. Your account
Keep your password confidential; you are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us at once through the contact form if you suspect unauthorised use. We may suspend an account to protect the Site or its members.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to: harvest, scrape or bulk-copy member data, including directory information; use member contact details for marketing, recruitment spam or any commercial solicitation without the member's clear consent; post content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, obscene, or that infringes another's rights; misrepresent jobs, qualifications or identities; upload malware or attempt to probe, overload or bypass the Site's security, including the anti-bot systems; or use the Site for any purpose unrelated to the alumni community. Directory access exists so members can find one another - it is not a database for export.
6. Member content and the archive
You keep ownership of everything you post or upload (messages, photographs, job postings, tributes, profile content). You grant the Association a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, reproduce, adapt for display, and - for content you submit to the archive or for publication - to publish it on the Site and in Association materials such as newsletters and reunion displays, with credit as you direct. You confirm you have the right to share what you upload, including the consent of identifiable people in photographs where required. You may ask us to remove your contributed content at any time; published archive material will be withdrawn from public view within a reasonable time, though it may persist in backups for the retention period described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Moderation
Volunteers may review, decline, edit for presentation (never meaning), or remove member content, and may approve or reject job postings and archive submissions. We may suspend or terminate membership for breach of these Terms, with notice and, except in serious cases, an opportunity to respond.
8. Jobs, mentoring and member interactions
The jobs board, mentoring and contact relay only introduce members to one another. The Association does not vet opportunities or guarantee any outcome, and is not a party to any employment, mentoring or other arrangement members enter. Exercise the judgement you would with any introduction.
9. The Association's content
The Site's design, text, and compilation of the archive are the Association's; historic school materials may carry their contributors' rights. You may share links to public pages freely and quote short extracts with attribution. Bulk reproduction of the archive or member-area content requires written permission.
10. Third-party services and links
The Site uses Cloudflare Turnstile for anti-bot checks and links to external platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Those services have their own terms; we are not responsible for them.
11. Service "as is"
The Site is run by volunteers, free of charge, on a reasonable-efforts basis. It is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, or fitness for a particular purpose. Historic information is presented in good faith from the sources available and may contain errors; corrections are welcome through the contact form.
12. Liability
To the fullest extent Indian law permits, the Association and its volunteers are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the Site, from member interactions, or from content posted by members. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify the Association and its volunteers against claims arising from your breach of these Terms, including content you upload without sufficient rights or consents.
14. Privacy
Personal data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy. Where these Terms and the Privacy Policy overlap, the Privacy Policy governs personal-data matters.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms; the version and effective date above will change, and material changes will be notified on the Site or by email. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance of the updated Terms.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to any mandatory law, the courts at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh have exclusive jurisdiction. We would much rather resolve any concern informally first - write to us through the contact form.
17. Contact
All correspondence with the Association is through the contact form on this Site, which covers general enquiries, archive contributions, nominations, in-memoriam requests, volunteering, press and data requests.
